Description

Strawberry Tres Leches Cake is a rich, moist dessert made with strawberry cake soaked in a sweet milk mixture and topped with fresh whipped cream and freeze-dried strawberries. An easy, showstopping treat!

Ingredients

Scale

Cake:

  • 1 box strawberry cake mix, plus ingredients to make cake

Milk Mixture:

  • 1 (14-oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (12-oz) can evaporated milk
  • 1 cup half-and-half

Topping:

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • crushed freeze-dried strawberries, for garnish

Instructions

1. Prepare the strawberry cake according to package directions. Bake in a greased and floured 9×13-inch pan.

2. While the cake bakes, mix together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and half-and-half in a bowl.

3. Once the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and poke holes all over the warm cake using a chopstick, straw, or spoon handle.

4. Slowly pour the milk mixture over the cake, allowing it to soak in.

5. Let the cake cool completely, then cover and refrigerate overnight.

6. Before serving, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract at high speed for 1-2 minutes until stiff peaks form.

7. Spread the whipped cream over the chilled cake and garnish with crushed freeze-dried strawberries.

8. Slice and serve.

Notes

You can substitute a tub of Cool Whip for the homemade whipped cream if desired.

For extra strawberry flavor:

– Use strawberry milk instead of half-and-half in the milk mixture.

– Fold fresh chopped strawberries into the cake batter.

– Add a layer of strawberry jam on top of the soaked cake before adding the whipped topping.

Refrigerate the cake until ready to serve. Store covered in the refrigerator.
