Description

Healthy Burger Bowl with Special Sauce delivers all the classic burger flavors without the bun. Juicy turkey burgers are served over crisp romaine with tomatoes, pickles, onions, cheddar cheese, and a creamy tangy burger sauce for a quick, satisfying low-carb meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Turkey Burgers

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil, plus more for cooking
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

For the Special Burger Sauce

  • 1/2 cup avocado mayo
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon pickle juice or apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika or chili powder
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

For the Burger Bowls

  • 4 cups chopped romaine lettuce
  • 1/2 cup sliced cherry tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup sliced red onion
  • 1/3 cup sliced pickles
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

1. In a medium bowl combine the ground turkey, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper and mix until well combined.

2. Form the mixture into 4 even burger patties about 3/4 inch thick and press your thumb into the center of each patty to prevent puffing while cooking.

3. Heat a skillet brushed with olive oil over medium heat.

4. Place the burger patties into the skillet and cook for about 4 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

5. Remove the burgers from the pan and set aside.

6. In a small bowl whisk together the avocado mayo, ketchup, Dijon mustard, pickle juice or vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika or chili powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.

7. To assemble, add chopped romaine lettuce to the bottom of each bowl.

8. Top with one or two turkey burgers, cherry tomatoes, red onion, pickles, and shredded cheddar cheese.

9. Drizzle the special burger sauce over the bowls and serve immediately.

Notes

Form the burgers evenly so they cook at the same rate.

You can prepare the burgers and sauce ahead of time and assemble the bowls when ready to serve.

Store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
