Description

Fall-off-the-bone tender halal beef ribs marinated in a smoky-sweet rub and finished with a glossy barbecue glaze. Slow-baked to perfection for a rich, savory centerpiece.

Ingredients

Scale

2 1/2 lbs (1.1kg) beef back or spare ribs
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp smoked paprika
1 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp olive oil
1 cup halal-approved barbecue sauce

Instructions

Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C)
Remove membrane from ribs and season with salt and pepper
In a bowl, mix dry rub ingredients (brown sugar, cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper)
Coat ribs evenly with olive oil, then press dry rub into meat
Place ribs in a roasting pan, cover tightly with foil, and bake for 2.5 hours
Uncover, brush with barbecue sauce, and bake 30 minutes more
Rest 15-20 minutes before slicing

Notes

Check barbecue sauce for alcohol content; use olive oil in roasting pan to prevent sticking
May substitute beef short ribs for extra richness
Resting time ensures juiciness
