Description

This Southern Banana Cobbler combines ripe bananas with a buttery, cinnamon-infused batter for a delightful treat. Perfectly sweet and just the right amount of cozy, it’s a crowd-pleaser served warm.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1⁄2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1⁄2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1⁄2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.

3. Add the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined to form a smooth batter.

4. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with a non-stick cooking spray or butter.

5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.

6. Arrange the sliced bananas on top of the batter.

7. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and nutmeg (if using) and sprinkle it evenly over the bananas.

8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

9. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

This cobbler can be served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.

Use overripe bananas for a sweeter, more aromatic flavor.

For added texture, consider sprinkling chopped pecans or walnuts on top before baking.

This recipe can be easily doubled for larger gatherings or potlucks.
